Trip to Spain: Day 2

We spent our first two nights in Spain in Barcelona. This meant we had a full day to explore the city and all it had to offer. After coffee and a quick bite to eat, we jumped on the Barcelona City Tour bus to be able to see as much as we could.

The bus took us to Park Guell on Carmel Hill with design elements by Antonio Gaudi, including the house he lived in. From the bus stop the park was a fair walk, but definitely worth it. I think we could have easily spent all day there! Due to cost and timing, we opted not to venture into the monumental zone of the park but rather walk to the peak and take in the spectacular views of the city.

There was so much to see at the park, the design elements were intriguing and the two buildings in the park just beautiful.

Back on the bus, we got a few quick photos on the go before heading to the Sagrada Familia basilica, also designed predominantly by Gaudi. From the outside the building is intricate and grand, but this soon became a common theme in Spain! This building was originally commenced in 1866 and continues to be built, as well as restored.

However, when we stepped inside it was absolutely breathtaking. The colours, the light, the columns and the detail... the photos just don't do it justice. We were absolutely mesmerised.

During the afternoon we stayed on the bus and saw the wharf, the Trade Centre, the Arc de Tromf, the Barcelona Football Club grounds and more... Given we had such a limited time to see Barcelona, the tourist bus was such a great way to quickly see so much.

In the evening we headed to 7 Portes for dinner, a restaurant recommended to us by my friend Silvia the day before. An incredibly tasty paella and good Spanish wine... a great end to a great day in Barcelona.

 Day 3 next time x
